The city of Chiang Mai, by the way it was building , might look as a European city. It has a central old downtown with fortifications around on which constructions were places along the time. Wat Chiang Man is the oldest temple of Chiang mai. Placed in the heart of the the city it still have a very calm ambient. If you are looking for a place with serenity to get some rest from the agitation of the city, this is the place you want to pick. He may not be the most impressive, or imposing temple but its beauties will delight you. Its chedi hold by elephant’s statue is gold covered.

The remaining of old fortifications surround the oldest part of the city. Some parts are missing and remplaced by a small river. The walk can take a good par of the day if you you will to go all around. If you are in Chiang Mai on Sunday, don’t miss the night market, you will find handmade crafts. It is on the east side just after the remparts.
